I recently purchased a Nintendo Wii for my son. (Ok for me as well). I was playing the Mario Brothers Racing game, when I realized how similar the onscreen race, I was trying to win, was to the entrepreneurial race I participate in every day. The road goes left and then right, sometimes without warning. I’m competing against so many other contenders who seem to have a better car than mine. And then there are the banana skins that appear out of nowhere and send me crashing into the wall. But the programmers are very fair; they always give you an opportunity target just after the banana peel.

What struck me most about the game was that there were special areas to drive into, which boosted your vehicle’s performance. My eyes were peeled for these areas, so that I could take full advantage of them in order to win the race. It’s more than halfway through the year now. It’s time to find your booster. In my world that would be to revisit the goals I set at the beginning of the year and to really meditate on them. It would be to look back over the past six months and really acknowledge all the successes I have achieved to date. It would be to look around me and appreciate all that I have: my family, my friends, my partners, my Raizcorpuscles, my health, my sanity, my attitude, my sense of humour, my clients, my opportunities, my ……

Spending just one hour on looking forward, looking backward, and being grateful for what you have in the present is such a wonderful booster for the next six months.
