Over the past few weeks, I have noticed a recurring theme that is dancing in and out of my life - the lack of self-confidence amongst so many South Africans, some of them in this building (Kramerville). Self-confidence and self-esteem must be the foundation of success, and the lack thereof is the foundation of so many terrible human traits such as jealousy, envy, self-destruction as well as the destruction of anything that potentially makes one feel worse, such as others’ success. One is not born with self-esteem; it is something that is learned throughout our lives. That’s right - throughout our lives. You are not sentenced to a life of low self-esteem if you never received the correct input during your formative years. You can choose to pursue and build self-esteem by reading, changing your friends (if necessary), but, most importantly, by the choices you make. Driving to work is a choice of listening to the radio, or to a motivational speaker such as Brian Tracy. Your evening is a choice between watching some soapie or reading a book that gives you tools to build your self esteem. I think I’m worth it, do you think you are?
